As someone who loves makeup and skin care and anything beauty related, I have found myself in a bit of beauty rut. I do wear makeup daily, but I’m into looking like I don’t wear any or at least pulling it all back a bit. So with Summer in full swing, I decided to make a list of some things I’m going to rely on for this hot ass heat and humidity I have to deal with where I live.
Going For The Glow
I’m all about the skin. Protecting it and caring for it is key. I’ve discovered one of the best facial toners that I’ve ever used. Alaffia Everyday Coconut Coconut Water Face Toner is so amazing! Made with coconut water, Neem and papaya, I got this little gem from Whole Foods one day just on a whim. The scent is divine and I found myself spritzing my face non-stop. Although you get a generous amount for the money ($9), I wish the bottle was purse-size friendly because it makes an amazing mid-day skin spritz.
Coverage + Protection
When it comes to foundation in high temps, most people want to lighten it a little bit. One of the most versatile foundations I’ve found is MAC Pro-Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundations. I say it’s most versatile because while it’s a medium to full coverage liquid, it great for covering those pesky spots and dark circles, if need be. And although it is a medium to full coverage makeup, with a drop or two (maybe three) it can totally be sheered out for a light, even coverage. It’s a 24-hour wear and can be used solely as a concealer. It’s waterproof, so it’s good if you want to wear a little something at the beach.
I See The Light
If you’re into highlighting, strobing, or whatever, take a serious gander at Becca Light Chaser Highlighter for Face and Eye (limited edition). I saw these when running into my local Sephora and was very impressed that they weren’t your typical highlighters. They provide a beautiful holographic quality to your highlight without being cheesy. I believe they will look quite stunning on us chocolate girls!
The Case For Low Maintenance Hair
I can’t remember the last time I’ve worn any sort of low maintenance hair style, but I’m going to try one this summer. My hair is completely natural, but I do straighten it. I want to resume working out and after the last few months of behaving like a sloth and I don’t want to be concerned with running to the hair salon every time I break a sweat. I haven’t tried it yet myself, but I’ve heard many good things about Girl + Hair Restoring Hair Balm. It’s made specifically for those who wear braids, wigs, and weaves and it’s formulated to prevent breakage while promoting hair growth. Once I get my hands on a bottle, I’ll do a full review.
Body Works
I love multi-use products and with IGK Speechless Hair and Body Dry Oil Finishing Spray, not only does your hair get a shot of hydration, this product can be used to get that sexy, magazine-worthy, all over body glow we all crave. And since it’s summer and we are exposing a little more skin, a dry oil that smells heavenly is just what we need to look delicious and divine for that midnight rooftop party you just got invited to.
