Glowing Glosses

gloss

As of late, all I’ve been wearing is a dark lip.  A deep chocolate, a rich browned red, and a gleaming dark cherry, and sumptuous merlots have taken up much real estate in my makeup bag.  But lately, I’ve  decided to go back to my “roots” and rock a natural nude lip.  My beauty look, aesthetically speaking, is a smoky eye in some variation and nude lip.  I’ve worn this look for years.  It’s one of my favorite looks and it’s my go-to.  But I got bored and moved to a more “statement” lip hence the deep colors.  I have worn the dark lips in all textures.  Mattes, creams, liquids, glosses, you name it.  I eased up on the eye makeup to balance out the dark lip.  But I decided to go back to “my look.”  I recently pulled out some of the best and prettiest glosses that I own.

Given to my by a makeup artist friend, she gifted me with Laura Mercier Paint Wash Lip Colour in Nude Rose.  It’s a slightly opaque plush lip color that has the texture of a gloss and a cream lipstick, but it’s not “gloppy” like some other liquid lipsticks that I’ve used before.  The Nude Rose is a neutral pink with the slightest hint of shimmer that looks great on my skin tone.  It doesn’t look chalky on my lips and that’s a huge plus!

The new Artistry Cosmetics Light Up Lipgloss in Pink Nude is a sheer pearl in texture and a clear pretty pink that I’ve been using a lot of lately.  It’s another shade of pink that looks good on dark skin tones and it doesn’t give an ashy look to the lips.  It’s a very comfortable gloss to wear and it’s not sticky and it lasts on the lips.  It’s totally lovely because as the name states, there is an LED light and mirror on the side to help you pretty up in any situation in any type of lighting.

Another gloss given to me is an old favorite.  Laura Mercier Lip Glacier in Bare Beige is a long time go to gloss for me.  It’s a soft clear beige that makes your lips look just that much better IRL.  It blends in beautifully with my skin tone.

The Marc Jacobs Enamored Hi Shine Lip Gloss in Taboo is a first for me.  I was gifted with this gloss from a fellow makeup artist who works for the brand (plus the new Velvet Noir mascara pictured!  Review on that to come.).  It’s described as a shimmery mauve, but on my lips, it looks a little more warm and nude on me.  The shimmer definitely comes through and it gives your lips a 3D effect.  So far I love it.  Not overly sticky and it has a bit of a cooling sensation on the lips.

The Laura Mercier Lip Glaze in Bare Naked was a part of a gift bag that I received (from another makeup artist friend).  It’s a pretty gold beige that’s slightly opaque on my lips.  But I make it wearable by mixing it with one of the other glosses that I mentioned above.  It’s still a very pretty color.

In order to keep my lips “baby soft”, I’ve been using French Girl Rose Lip Polish that I found at Follain.  It’s a softly scented sugar lip scrub that keeps the skin chunks away and keeps your lips super smooth.
