Oh my! What can I say about protecting your hair? Natural hair in particular. With winter coming to a close and segueing into an early spring (I hope), my hair has been chemical-free for about two years now. My biggest focus is caring for my unprocessed hair, no matter what season were in. I was cognizant of protecting my relaxed hair against dryness and breakage, I am doubly aware of how moisture is majorly important to keeping my unprocessed hair healthy and hydrated.
I still get my hair done professionally regularly. I wear it straight or curly sometimes. But when I am involved in doing my own hair, some of my favorite product get inserted into my hair care regime at some point.
Prior to washing my hair, I like to do a pre-wash conditioning with L’Huile de Leonor Greyl Oil. Perfect for eliminating tangles or “fairy knots.” With “refined copra oil which comes from cold-pressed coconut kernels and mongongo oil, extracted from the nuts of an African tree that grows in the Kalahari Desert,” this oil is as good as it gets and works so well on unprocessed hair!
When styling my hair, especially when I want to straighten it, I like to use Rahua Finishing Treatment. The lightweight cream product is really good for protecting the hair against heat damage from blow drying and flat ironing.
Carol’s Daughter Hair Balm is an excellent liquid hair pomade that I LOVE to use for my natural hair. In the same way that I use the L’Huile de Leonor Greyl Oil, I’ll use this Carol’s Daughter favorite prior to washing my hair. I alternate between the two products. I will even use it before getting my hair done professionally by coating my hair the night before thus sleeping with it. Wearing it all day until my hair appointment and having a shampoo and hydrating treatment as usual. My hair comes out super soft with less tangles!
Made with a conditioning silk protein, the Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Shampoo is great for those with thick curly hair. Again, it’s great for detangling and it smells divine!
L’Oreal Total Repair 5 Damage-Easing Balm is a deep conditioner that will undo a year’s worth of damage to your hair. I like to use this afforable treatment to keep my hair from breaking when I feel that I’ve been manipulating it too much. As mentioned, when I alternate between a straight and curly style, I want to make sure my hair is super protected without the weightiness of a lot of deep conditioners.
I got introduced to Rene Furterer Absolut Keratine by a friend and it is great for dry, brittle hair. I will alternate between this conditioner and the L’Oreal Total Repair 5 Damage-Easing Balm. I find that my hair does well when I alternate products. I don’t know why that is, but it works for me.
Lastly, Marula Oil Light Hair Treatment & Styling Oil is a really good lightweight oil for styling your hair without the weight. It keeps my curls shiny and healthy looking. A little of this oil definitely goes along way!
