THE SPRING BEAUTY REPORT – TWO TRENDS

THE STATEMENT LIP

New York Fashion Week for Fall 2017 is in full swing right now, but I’m focusing more on what’s going to be popping for Spring/Summer 2017.  To be honest, I don’t follow trends too much anymore because I feel that you can pretty much get away with whatever look you want to try or feel comfortable with.  But every so often, I do like to see what came down the runway in terms of beauty looks and see what’s interesting. Lipstick, in and of itself, has been enjoying a big moment over the last few years.  With all sorts of textures to be had, you can go for mattes, if that’s your thing.  Or ultra-creamy nudes, too. This spring, it’s all about the bold, statement lip. In any texture you can dream up, bold saturated crimsons, fuchsias, grapes, and even a sumptuous and creamy turquoise are all on the menu. These are lip looks you’ve undoubtedly seen before, but it’s how it’s worn is the key.  Clean skin with little to no coverage of foundation (another trend this season) with a defined eye or a colorful or no eyes at all with a defined and clean full brow. My suggestion is to create your own bold shade by mixing colors and textures to see what you come up with.  You may be pleasantly surprised!

BLUSHIN’ BABE

Harkening back to the days of disco ala Ms. Grace Jones and the Boss herself, Ms. Ross, blush (for the younger generation) or rouge (your grandmother’s generation) will have a moment for the spring.  I got a little giddy about this trend because I LOVE blush! As pictured here, there is the whole “strobing” thing going on here.  With color boldly sitting on the skin, it goes from the eye right to the cheek in a sculpted shape.  You don’t have to be this technical to wear blush this way, but amp up your look with a sheer wash of a cherry or bold rose. Pair another of the season’s trend of sheer glossy lips, and you are well on your way to capturing one of the season’s most coveted looks. If you are not comfortable wearing a bright blush, but would love to try the trend, start with a medium large fluffy brush for application and build the color to your desired intensity.  I find that the Nars Yachiyo Kabuki brush applies blush beautifully and you can build the color as you see fit.  I would recommended adding this brush to your collection if you haven’t already.  It’s one of my favorites.
