I’m just going to jump right in. Retinol is the gentle little sister of the more potent Retinoid (or Retin-A as it’s commonly referred as). Well, what are retinoids and retinol? Glad you asked. Both are vitamin A derivatives, but retinoid was created initially to combat acne, but was soon discovered that it was good for other uses like fighting signs of aging. Although some retinoid products are available over the counter, most likely you’ll need a prescription to get your hands on some. Retinoids are highly effective and they can produce fast results, but the downside is that they can cause issues like dryness, burning/stinging, redness, or sun sensitivity.
In the meantime, retinol, as stated earlier is a gentler version of retinoid and is widely available. As someone who’s had the experience of using a retinol cream, I can say with complete confidence that they do work.
Retinols can do some amazing things to your skin to include blasting acne, and retexturing skin to a baby soft smoothness, getting rid of dark spots/hyperpigmentation and it can give your skin that ever elusive glow that you seek. And the best part is that the side effects that can occur with retinoids are totally lessened with retinol.
Some really gentle, but effective retinol products are seen below:
